Description / Biog

My main creations are hand felted objects and most recently I have produced a range of hand felted decorative bowls. This involves rubbing layers of marino sheep fleece fibres with hot water and soap until the fibres bind together to form a matted material. I then tease this into a bowl shape and embellish it with beading. I also add exclusive silk threads, raw silk fibres, limited edition threads and sometimes leaves and seeds. I dye some bowls myself with home or hedgerow grown natural dies such as blackberry, beet root or onion skins. I originally worked as a Marine Biologist, and through these studies felt compelled to draw the life forms I encountered. A variety of evening classes in photography and art, and a few years foundation course in art, introduced me to the textile media which has inspired me ever since. My inspiriation is the natural environment, particularaly wildlife. I am currently working on a range of hand felted bowls, soft sculptured felt wading birds, framed felts and wall hangings.
