Shaylyn [The Shaylyn Group Ltd]
Description / Biog

Shaylyn Ltd is an Irish Dance & Music Performance Group and Show who provide performance and development opportunities for talented Irish dancers, singers and musicians beyond the classroom and competition experience. Established in 2000 Shaylyn, which was founded by Jane, Martha & Laura Gilheaney from Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, is a community voluntary group & limited company who provide a high energy, quality, fast paced and exhilarating show that continues to go from strength to strength and which has been described by audiences around the world as better and more enjoyable than Riverdance. The success of Shaylyn can only be attributed to the level of talent, commitment and passion exhibited by its members something that comes across to every audience and leaves a smile on every face! At Shaylyn we like to say ‘Give us two hours and we’ll give you 2000 years of music, song and dance in Ireland.’ Shayln has performed at theatres around Ireland and at many festivals such as The Rose of Tralee & Feile in Belfast. International performances have brought Shaylyn to England, Germany, Poland, France, New York and off Broadway – The Town Hall, West 42nd St. TV appearances include BBC Ulster, RTE’s ‘You’re a Star’ finals (backing Donna & Joseph McCaul), Seoige & O’Shea and are soon to be featured on Nationwide.

In 2006 Shaylyn were granted almost 500,000 for the development of a traditional performing arts centre in Ballinamore. The Shaylyn Centre has linked with the Irish World Academy, University College Limerick and will be providing the first ever outreach programme from the college on its music and dance programmes. The Diploma in Irish Music & Dance is open to student and tutor applicants until November 22nd 2007 and will begin in January 2008. Successful students will be able to apply to join the second year of the degree in Limerick after taking the Diploma in Ballinamore. The Centre is also home to the Cross Border Culture & Dance Reconciliation Initiative funded by the Peace Programme. This project is exploring Irish & Ulster Scots dance together for the first time and delivering free workshops in these dance traditions across the border counties region. For information on any of these projects please contact the centre on 00353 71 9681101 or by email to info@shaylyn.net or visit the website www.shaylyn.net
