Description / Biog
I am the craftsman behind these wonderful Hobby Horses. This creative wood work is of a traditional heirloom quality with attention to detail and finish. Each piece is a lovingly hand crafted, hand painted work of art. These inspiringly beautiful, yet robust toys, are also sought after purely for decoration. Every hobby horse is individually numbered and signed. There is a nostalgic aura to this toy. Adults who buy them enjoy a feel good factor, because they know that when the child grows up they will remember the gift with great fondness. In turn they pass it on to their own child and the cycle begins again. These are the collectors items of tomorrow!
I have a physics degree and I work as a secondary school teacher, teaching woodwork, metalwork and technology. I also run my own successful joinery business, making exclusive kitchens and furniture on a commission basis. This year I have turned my hand to toy making and plan to expand the range in the near future. My Inspiration has been the fruitful imagination of my own children and the joy they find in role play, which is an important part of child development. I also have a keen interest in the Steiner philosophy of education. All of these aspects have inspired me to create a toy which children enjoy playing with for hours on end, providing not only physical, but also creative exercise. I am currently working on Hobby Horses, a range of wooden dinosaurs, a range of wooden Irish wildlife creatures, a range of pull along toys and a traditional dolls house.
I can provide one-off design commissions with direct consultation. I have made a hobby dragon and Lion based on favourite characters in children's books. Any of my hobby horses can be personalised by adding a child's name to the scrollwork e.g. include babies name, birth date and birth weight.
