Description / Biog
My business plan is to offer, initially, themed weekends, somewhat similar in nature to what is on offer during the wise woman weekend. The idea is to combine a number of “sectors” (art, drama, writing, healing, cookery, earth wisdom, spirituality, traditional skills and crafts) to offer events that address sustainable living – including emotional and spiritual sustainability. I am originally from Atlantic Canada and settled in Ireland in 2001. I obtained the Chartered Accountants designation while employed by PriceWaterhouseCoopers and have worked as an accountant and auditor in the public sector, international companies and small business. My interest in sustainable issues in Ireland, began in 2003 when I volunteered at The Organic Centre assisting with marketing and administration. I went on to become a board member of the Green Festival, expanding links with people involved in sustainable issues in and beyond the region. In conjunction with Ard Nahoo Health Farm, I organised the very successful Wise Woman Weekend in May 2005. This event attracted 150 women from all over Ireland and injected € 15,000 into the local economy. There is a critical mass of talented people living in this area who have knowledge that should be shared. There is a market for “sustainable learning” that is defined on a board basis and is inclusive of all “sustainable learning” opportunities that already exist in the region. I am inspired to put the two together and market it to those seeking “learning”, “eco” or “cultural tourism” experiences. I am currently working on the 2006 Wise Woman Weekend Programme which should be complete by Dec 10th. I also plan to have a “Living Fully” weekend in Nov 2006, and I am working on the concept for a summer or autumn weekend for 2006. I am interested in hearing from others who would like to share their skill, craft or service so I can start a database of potential facilitators for workshops.
