Description / Biog
Sapphire Design is a graphic design and visual communication business, based in North Sligo run by myself, Jackie Mc Mullen. The business was established six years ago and is now thriving. After leaving school, I studied accountancy but always loved art and photography. After working in this area for a few years I decided to make a change and there began my career in Photography and Design. Initially, I worked in a retail photography business before moving to a Professional Photographic studio where I worked for 6 years and which I thouroughly enjoyed. During the course of this time the studio began moving towards the digital side of the business and this is where I began studying and working in the graphics studio. I attended NCAD (National College of Art & Design) at night during this time also. An opportunity then arose to manage a new design & graphic bureau in Dublin and so before moving to Sligo this is what I did for 3 years. This was a great experience as a precursor to setting up Sapphire Design when myself and my husband moved to Sligo.
Sapphire Design has a varied client list which includes local and national businesses in the areas of Tourism, Public Sector, Training & Professional Services, Community & Voluntary, I.T. & Engineering, Third Party Work. We are currently working on an Anti-Racism calendar for 2006 for the HSE which shows a selection of pictures produced by children in various schools in the North West region rising awareness of and challenging racism and celebrating cultural diversity.
I help businesses promote themselves, and communicate their message about their product or service, visually. This can be through the design of a logo and visual identity and also the design of marketing and and information literature such as flyers, brochures, posters, leaflets, adverts as well as signage and large format displays for exhibitions. As well as providing design for print services, and ongoing consultancy and advice on all areas of visual communications, we offer other services such as web site design, illustration, photography, merchandising and digital printing services.
