Description / Biog
As a woodturner, I developed my interest in wood at an early age when I learned the trade as a joiner. I started woodturning as a hobby in 1991 and went from teaching in workshops to making it a fulltime profession. I became increasingly more interested in producing aesthetically appealing items ina wide range of unusual timbers. Woodturning is one of the oldest crafts known to man and has been in existence for some 3,000 years. The woodturner endeavours to display the full beauty of the wood in his work, with simplicity of design. Nothing appears complicated or awkward, the shapes or forms are suble and elegant creating a powerful effect. Part of the fascination of wood, is that every tree is different which have their own characteristics, hence every item is unique. I like to craft a product naturally, preferring to keep in any flaws and bark. Using dead and fallen wood, I produce an exquisite range of highly decorative and functional pieces. Wood used are synamore, oak, ash, beech, yew, elm, silver birch, whitethorn, cherry, alder, holly, spaltedbeech and the muchsought after bog oak. I have a workshop based at my home in Enniskillen aswell as at the Buttermarket in Enniskillen town. My most recent creations is a range of beautiful handmade pens, letteropeners, keyrings and bookmarks crafted from various woods including Bog Oak and Yew.
