Description / Biog

Celtic Seaweed Baths is a traditional marine cure centre based in Strandhill Co.Sligo. Located on the esplanade at Strandhill, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, Celtic Seaweed Baths is owned and run by Walton family and is an award winning business enterprise which has appeared on national and International television. The baths are hugely successful and amongst the most popular of Sligo’s many attractions. Seaweed baths are an old tradition in County Sligo. The original bathhouse on this site was built early in the last century and was widely used by people from all around the area. This particular bathhouse was destroyed by hurricane Debbie in 1962 and the present building was developed with assistance from local funding bodies in 2000. Thalassatherapy (treatments using seaweed and sea water) has been popular for thousands of years. In ancient times the Greeks and Romans believed that seawater and seaweed were highly beneficial. It is known that they have curative and therapeutic properties, and that seawater is almost identical to body plasma, so soaking in warm seawater enables the body to absorb minerals and trace elements while at the same time eliminating toxins and impurities. The seaweed adds a wonderful extra dimension as it is responsible for 70% of oxygen in the atmosphere and is like concentrated seawater which stores all these minerals and trace elements as well as antibacterial agents such as iodine during its growth. It also contains natural oils which are released by the heat of the bathwater. These oils are absorbed into the skin, leaving it supple, rejuvenated and moisturized. Studies have confirmed that seaweed bathing helps reduce stress and relieves certain skin conditions. It is also helpful for the symptoms of rheumatism and arthritis, in the treatment of some circulatory problems, and eases backache or aching muscles. Above all, the healing powers of the sea help restore the balance needed by the body to promote well being and vitality. VOYA is a new range of organic skin care products from Celtic Seaweed Baths which are blended entirely from pure natural extracts and ingredients. Unlike conventional 'Cosmetics', Voya is organic, using ingredients such as Bee’s wax, Seaweed extract, Sea salts, Pure Aloe Vera and essential oils. They are the result of 5 years research into the marriage of organic produce and hand harvest seaweed. The result is the first seaweed product range to carry an Organic certification. What makes Voya so revolutionary is the fact that it is completely simple in its composition. We do not promise everlasting youth or magical skin rejuvenation but what we do offer is pure and simple beauty and skincare products, untainted by mass production and uncontaminated by mass marketing.
