Cavan-Monaghan Rural Development Co-operative is a community based Non Government Organisation established in 1991 by the coming together of local rural development actors from the two border counties of Cavan and Monaghan and acts as a single point of contact for rural development supports in the area.
The co-op is a non profit making organisation with charitable status and is the primary rural development agency in operation in the area. Supports are provided in the form of training mentoring, research, networking and capital grant assistance.
Walking Trails Development Workshop 18th November 2006 Iontas Centre, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan
Cavan Monaghan Rural Development (CMRD) is organising a workshop on walking trails development, which will highlight the importance of trails both as a community resource and as a catalyst for attracting tourists to the area. This workshop will bring together a number of speakers from across the island of Ireland who have been involved in the development of various types of walks including; National Waymarked Ways, Looped Walks, Heritage Trails, Walking festivals, Walking Guides and Hill-walking clubs.
This event is targeted specifically at groups interested in walking trail development and will also provide information to all individuals interested in the activity of walking. Information will be available about walking clubs and their planned activities in the border counties of Cavan, Monaghan, Armagh, Tyrone and Fermanagh.
The programme for the ‘Walking Trails Development Workshop’:

The Northern Ireland experience in walking trail development and the importance of heritage in trail development Fiona Bryant - Project Co-ordinator for the North Sperrins Heritage Trail
Monaghan Waymarked Way Committee will provide a brief overview about the development of the Co Monaghan’s first 64 kilometre long National Waymarked Way.
Knockatallon Rambling Club, Co Monaghan will outline how the development of the Sliabh Beagh Trails and the Walking Club has benefited both the community and tourism development.
